My condolences to his family, friends and fans.  I had a opportunity to met him back in the mid 80's when Jerry and I spent a summer in Houston. One of the many bands we saw play at a club called Cardi's was Pantera (This was when they were actually a glam band) I remember us sitting at the bar sharing drinks and listening to his road stories and thinking how fu*kin cool it was for him to sit and talk to us. Even though we only met he treated me like he knew me forever. He had some amazing and funny stories.. Little did he know what inspiration he was to me. I thought to myself if I'm ever in his shoes I will treat my fans like he's treated me.
